The
Turns Family
Cup was won by St Mary Magdalen's after a dominant display
against St Cuthbert's. St Mary's started well and were a constant
threat to the St Cuthbert's goal. It was no surprise when St
Mary's took the lead, and this was immediately followed by a
second and then a superbly headed third. St Cuthbert's never
gave up and their goalkeeper made a string of excellent
saves. St Mary's were in no mood to be denied, however,
and added four more excellent goals. Credit goes to St Cuthbert's for
having such a positive attitude in the second half and they had a very good
shot which was well saved by the St Mary's keeper. At
the final whistle, St Mary's celebrated a well-deserved victory. Congratulations to St
Mary's and commiserations to St
Cuthbert's.

The Barry
Sutherland Cup was won by St Mary Magdalen's after an entertaining
match with Seaham Trinity. Both teams settled quickly and only a
superb save from the St Mary's goalkeeper prevented Trinity
from taking the
lead.
However, St Mary's
were always
dangerous and they scored an excellent goal after
a brilliant move and a clever
finish. Trinity roared straight back and a shot thundered against the
St Mary's post. St Mary's led 1-0 at the break but
they knew that they needed a second goal to make the
game secure. Trinity came out out strongly in the second half and
soon forced the St Mary's keeper into a smart save. Then
St Mary's broke away down the left and a superb
first-time cross led to a tap-in at the far
post. 2-0 to St Mary's. Trinity kept on trying and a
header flashed just wide of the St Mary's post. At the final
whistle, St Mary's celebrated a hard-fought victory and lifted the Barry Sutherland Cup for
a record-breaking fourth season in a row. It was an excellent match and
credit to the players from both teams for providing such an entertaining
and exciting final for the
crowd.

The Ian Gustard Cup
was won by St Mary Magdalen's after an entertaining match with
Seaview. Both teams settled quickly and only the post
prevented St Mary's from taking a first half lead, but Seaview
were always a threat on the break. St Mary's started the
second half strongly but were constantly thwarted by brilliant
Seaview goalkeeping and
defending.
Midway through the
half, St
Mary's broke the deadlock after a corner and quickly
doubled their lead following an excellent
through-ball. A sensational individual goal for St Mary's then made the
score 3-0. A lesser team would have given up but Seaview
rolled up their sleeves and and gave it their all. Their
efforts were rewarded with probably the most spectacular goal ever scored in
a Seaham final, A shot from deep in his own half
sailed over the St Mary's keeper's head and thundered into
the back of the net - absolutely stunning. Amazingly,
this was almost repeated in the last minute when a similar
shot from distance crashed against the crossbar. Before that, though, St Mary's
had added a brilliant fourth goal, after yet another superb passing move. At the
final whistle, St Mary's celebrated a well-deserved victory. It was an
excellent match and credit to the players from both teams for providing such
an exciting final for the
crowd.

The Harry Page Cup was won by Seaview
after a hard-fought and entertaining
match with St Cuthbert's. Seaview began the match well
and created lots of good
chances but either couldn't find the target or were foiled by
the determined St Cuthbert's keeper who was in fine form. St
Cuthbert's grew into the match and created some chances of
their own, but it was Seaview who took the lead with an
excellent team goal. However, they were soon pegged back when
St Cuthbert's scored after a lightning-fast break. At
half-time, with the score at 1-1, it was too close a game to
call. Chances continued to come in the second half but both
goalkeepers made some outstanding saves to keep the score
level. With time running out, Seaview broke away and scored a
wonderful second goal to
take the lead. St Cuthbert's
never
gave up but, in spite of all their efforts, were unable to
score an equaliser, which would have taken the game into extra
time. Seaview celebrated at
the final whistle as winners of the Harry Page Cup.
It was a fine game, played in excellent spirit. Congratulations to Seaview
and commiserations to St Cuthbert's.
Final score: Seaview 2 St Cuthbert's 1
