The Girls' Tournament
took place on Friday 12th May 2023 at Ribbon Academy,
Murton.
Entrants
- Ropery Walk, Ryhope,
St Cuthbert's, St Mary Magdalen's and
Westlea
On a cool spring evening, Ropery Walk and
St Cuthbert's both won their opening sets of matches to set
the pace. St Mary's then started to find their form to make a
strong challenge. The Ryhope and Westlea girls played some
excellent football
as well and scored some terrific goals. However, it was
Ropery Walk who began to dominate the tournament by playing
some irresistible football. The St Mary's girls weren't far behind
but the Ropery girls were in no mood to let their
early lead slip. The final game between Ropery and St Cuthbert's
was the decisive match in the whole tournament with Ropery winning by
a single, brilliant goal. That meant that Ropery Walk had
won all their four games and deservedly won the tournament with
St Mary Magdalen's finishing as runners-up. As usual, the whole competition
was played in excellent spirit and provided great entertainment
for the spectators. Congratulations to the girls
from Ropery Walk and to all the teams
for a superb tournament.
Girls' Tournament Rules
i) Ten players per squad (limited to Y5 and Y6),
seven of whom form the
team and the other three are
subs.
ii)
Games are 4 minutes each way (unless agreed
otherwise before the
tournament).
iii)
The playing rules are the same as for
mini-soccer.
iv) If sufficient numbers warrant a dual
league system, teams are drawn to play
in two leagues and each league team plays
each other once. The
winners of group one play the winners of group
two in the final. If the final is drawn, extra time of two
minutes each way will be played. If there is still no winner
after extra time, the trophy will be shared unless both
finalists agree to take part in a penalty shoot-out, which
would involve 5 players from each team.
v) Teams are awarded three points for a
win and one for a
draw.
vi) Should
teams have the same number of points the highest placed team
shall be
decided as follows: a) Goal difference; b) Most goals scored; c)
Won most matches; d) Result(s) of matches between the teams concerned.
Should teams share a qualifying position in the group and
the playing records are identical, then a 'golden goal'
play-off match may be arranged if time permits. If this is impossible
or the play-off match is goalless, the position
will be decided by a penalty shoot-out involving 5 players
from each team.
