The
7 a-side Tournament took place on Thursday 19th September at
Ribbon Academy, Murton.
Group
1: Ryhope, Seaview
and Seaham Trinity
Group
2: Ribbon, Ropery Walk, St Cuthbert's and
St Mary's
On a chilly autumn evening, Seaham Trinity proved to be the
strongest team in Group One, winning three of their four matches.
Group Two was a much tighter affair with the
defences of the four teams so dominant that only a single goal
was scored in all six games. That precious goal was
scored by Ribbon and they, thereby, qualified to play
Seaham Trinity in the final. The final between the two
successful teams was an exciting, nail biting affair. Ribbon were
close to taking an early lead but the Trinity defence
showed that they could be as mean as Ribbon's. In the second
half, Trinity broke away and scored a fine goal. Ribbon
never gave up but Trinity managed to keep out the Murton
school's attack and ran out winners by 1-0 to lift the 7
a-side trophy. The whole competition was played in
excellent spirit and provided great entertainment for the
spectators. Congratulations to Seaham Trinity and
commiserations to Ribbon.
7 a-side
Rules
i) Ten players per squad (limited to Y5 and Y6),
seven of whom form the
team and the other three are
subs.
ii)
Games are 3 minutes each way (unless agreed
otherwise before the
tournament).
iii)
The playing rules are the same as for
mini-soccer with one possible exception - in circumstances
where pitches have been cut short in order to accommodate two pitches instead of one.
If that is the case, owing to the short length of
the pitch, after holding the ball, goalkeepers must return the ball into play
by throwing
it. In all
other circumstances, the normal rules of mini-soccer
apply.
iv) If sufficient numbers warrant a dual
league system, teams are drawn to play
in two leagues and each league team plays
each other once. The winners of Group One play the winners of Group Two in
the final, which will be 4 minutes each way. If the final is
drawn, extra time of two minutes each way will be played. If
there is still no winner after extra time, a penalty shoot-out
will take place involving 5 players from each
team.
v) Teams are awarded three points for a
win and one for a
draw.
vi) Should
teams have the same number of points the highest placed team
shall be decided as follows: a) Goal difference; b) Most goals
scored; c) Won most matches; d) Result(s) of matches between the
teams concerned. Should teams share a qualifying position in the group
and the playing records are identical, then a 'golden goal' play-off match
may be arranged if time permits. If this is
impossible, the position will be decided by penalty kicks.
