The
7 a-side Tournament took place on Thursday 14th September at
Seaview Primary School.
Entrants
- Ropery
Walk, Seaham Trinity, Seaview, St Cuthbert's and St
Mary Magdalen's
On a cool autumn evening, St
Mary's and Seaham Trinity both won their opening matches to set
the pace. St Cuthbert's then started to find their form to
make a strong challenge. Ropery Walk and Seaview played some
excellent football as well. However, it was Seaham Trinity who
began to dominate the tournament with some irresistible
football. St Mary's and St Cuthbert's weren't far behind but
the Trinity players were in no mood to let their early lead
slip and ran out worthy winners of the competition. St
Cuthbert's just pipped St Mary's to claim the runners-up spot.
A feature of the whole tournament was the excellent standard
of goalkeeping from all five teams and the
whole competition provided great entertainment for the
spectators. Congratulations to Seaham Trinity and to all the
teams for a superb tournament.

7 a-side
Rules
i) Ten players per squad (limited to Y5 and Y6),
seven of whom form the
team and the other three are
subs.
ii)
Games are 3 minutes each way (unless agreed
otherwise before the
tournament).
iii)
The playing rules are the same as for
mini-soccer with one possible exception - in circumstances
where pitches have been cut short in order to accommodate two pitches instead of one.
If that is the case, owing to the short length of
the pitch, after holding the ball, goalkeepers must return the ball into play
by throwing
it. In all
other circumstances, the normal rules of mini-soccer
apply.
iv) If sufficient numbers warrant a dual
league system, teams are drawn to play
in two leagues and each league team plays
each other once. The winners of Group One play the winners of Group Two in
the final, which will be 4 minutes each way. If the final is
drawn, extra time of two minutes each way will be played. If
there is still no winner after extra time, a penalty shoot-out
will take place involving 5 players from each
team.
v) Teams are awarded three points for a
win and one for a
draw.
vi) Should
teams have the same number of points the highest placed team
shall be decided as follows: a) Goal difference; b) Most goals
scored; c) Won most matches; d) Result(s) of matches between the
teams concerned. Should teams share a qualifying position in the group
and the playing records are identical, then a 'golden goal' play-off match
may be arranged if time permits. If this is
impossible, the position will be decided by penalty kicks.
